Getting COVID May Increase Your Risk of Developing Mental Health Issues
A recent study found that people who recover from COVID-19 have an increased risk of a variety of mental health problems and substance use.
An earlier 2021 study published in The Lancet Psychiatry (236 379 patients diagnosed with COVID-19) found that the incidence of neurological or psychiatric diagnosis six months after getting COVID-19 was about 33.62%, and the risk appeared to be higher among those who had a severe case. Overall, these studies demonstrate the need for mental health support among recovered patients.
